Reader here, and I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to chime in with my thoughts on the Rolling Stones’ brand-new album, “Foreign Tongues!”
As you can probably expect, it’s been on heavy rotation in my house, as it’s an album full of great tunes and that trademark Stones’ attitude.
One thing that is apparent since they’ve teamed up with producer Andrew Watt, who also produced their previous album, “Hackney Diamonds,” is that there’s a lot of life an energy left in Mick, Keith and Ronnie yet!
From the opener, “Rough and Twisted, the guys are bringing the heat.
As always, there’s a lot of variety in the Stones arsenal, encompassing many genres, from rock, to blues, country, dance and more.
It’s tough to pick favourites, but if there’s one track that’s my fave right now, it’s this one…
But then, there’s the bounce of this one here…
This one has that late 70’s feel from the “Some Girls” era!
There’s always a ballad or two on every Stones’ album, and I dig this one.
This one’s pretty good, too, making use of Mick’s falsetto.
Oh heck, here’s one more, and it’s one that’ll get your butt moving!
But there are a ton of other great tracks, from “Hit Me in the Head,” featuring late Stones drummer Charlie Watts, from his late session before his passing, as well as a super cover of Amy Winehouse’s “You Know I’m No Good,” and more.
If you’re just looking for a great, straight-up fun Rock ‘n’ Roll record, the Stones have served it up with “Foreign Tongues.”
It’s their 25th British studio album (27th in the USA), and if it turns out to be their last one, it’s be a great note to go out on.
In fact, it’s their 15th #1 album in the U.K., tying them with their old rivals the Beatles for second all-time, behind Robbie Williams.
(I hope it’s not the last one, especially when Mick says they’re already writing the next album!)
Frankly, no rock band has ever taken it as far as the Rolling Stones, and I fully expect the next album within a year or two.
Age be damned… the Rolling Stones will never die!
