Reader here, and I’m excited to see that we’re finally getting some summer weather, with the mercury rising into the 30s this week.
After what felt like about 14 winters, one after another, it’s great to see the snow all gone, and now we can venture outside in shorts and flip-flops, enjoying our favourite outdoor activities.
Even something as simple as sitting outside, enjoying an ice cold beverage.
When it comes to adult beverages, I enjoy a cold beer, or a nice gin and tonic.
Of course, I’ll never say “no” to an ice cold Coke Zero, or a slushie (my favourite flavours, FYI? grape and lime, orange and lime, or Mountain Dew!)
When you’re outside in the heat and working, there’s nothing better than a big bottle full of ice water.
And let’s not forget a cold iced tea. Maybe your fave is to grab the best iced tea mix ever (GoodHost – don’t fight me on this one!), and fill a pitcher.
Or if you dig something other than the classic lemon iced tea, I may have become addicted to Razzleberry Peace Tea. Soooo good!
Lately, I’ve also been drinking a ton of “Arnold Palmers” – the mix of iced tea and lemonade, made famous by the golf icon, who requested the drink after a round, and it caught on with fans.
I’ve always loved iced tea. When I was a kid, I had a tall cup at home that I always used to mix up my own drink in, using way too much iced tea drink mix (usually 2-3 heaping tablespoons of iced tea mix – I liked it strong!). Then, I’d drink it with said tablespoon, like I was eating soup. (An odd habit that I’ve thankfully outgrown).
I also remember when I found out that Canadians and Americans have a very different take on iced tea.
In Grade 11, our Outlook High School Senior Concert Band made our way to Bismarck, North Dakota for a band festival, and on one evening, we made our way to a restaurant to grab some supper. I needed something to sip on with my meal, so I went to the drink dispenser, filled my glass, and headed back to my table.
I took a sip, expecting the Canadian-style iced tea I was used to, only to find that when our southern neighbours drink iced tea, it’s quite literally brewed tea, served cold! Not at all what I was expecting.
I didn’t mind it, but I think I’ll stick with what I’m used to!
What is your favourite cold beverage to help beat the heat? Let me know!
