Hey, everybody! Reader here, and I’m quite excited, as you’d expect, at the news of a new album on the way by my absolute, most favourite band of all time, the Rolling Stones!
Last week, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood announced that the Stones would be releasing the band’s 25th (!!!) studio album, “Foreign Tongues,” on July 10th.
The Stones put out the first taster for the album on Record Store Day, April 11th, when the single “Rough & Twisted” came out, under the pseudonym “The Cockroaches,” which is a name had used when performing some small club gigs in the past.
Definitely a nod to the Stones’ bluesy roots, a lot like what can be found on their 2016 blues covers album, “Blue & Lonesome!”
And now, the next single from the album is out, “In the Stars!”
It’s so funny to see the digitally de-aged versions of Jagger, Richards and Wood!
Here’s the rest of the track list:
- “Rough and Twisted”
- “In the Stars”
- “Jealous Lover”
- “Mr. Charm”
- “Divine Intervention”
- “Ringing Hollow”
- “Never Wanna Lose You”
- “Hit Me in the Head”
- “You Know I’m No Good”
- “Some of Us”
- “Covered in You”
- “Side Effects”
- “Back in Your Life”
- “Beautiful Delilah”
“Hit Me in the Head” will see the legendary Paul McCartney team up with the band again, as he did on “Bite My Head Off,” on the Stones’ previous album, “Hackney Diamonds.”
Also, the album will feature what is reportedly the final song that late, great Stones drummer Charlie Watts recorded with the band that he provided the heartbeat for so many years.
There are a couple of covers on the album – “Beautiful Delilah,” by one of Keith Richards’ biggest influences, Chuck Berry. along with “You Know I’m No Good,” written and originally performed by the late Amy Winehouse, who shared the stage with the Stones before her passing.
Also joining the Stones on the new album, are Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, and The Cure frontman Robert Smith. That should be an interesting combination!
Thus far, there have been no plans for a tour, other that to confirm that they wouldn’t be hitting the road in 2026. But you never know what might happen.
After all, no one has ever taken a Rock ‘n’ Roll band as far as the Stones have gone. At this point, every new album is something that I’m excited for and treasure, because after all, “this could be the last time…”
