Reader here, and last night, I found myself going down a bit of a YouTube rabbit hole, when a video popped up featuring a brief tour of Graceland, the Memphis castle of the “King of Rock ‘n’ Roll,” Elvis Presley.
Of course, that’s where Elvis lived, died, and is buried, but the house itself is something I’d love to see, with all of the King’s personal belongings, and all the rooms where he lived and recorded (the “Jungle” room), the kitchen where his beloved fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches were lovingly prepared, and of course, the meditation garden, where Elvis, his parents, his daughter Lisa Marie and her son are all buried.
Beyond the house itself, is a larger museum, that houses all his cars, awards, sequined jumpsuits and much more, including his private plane, the “Lisa Marie.”
Man, that’d be something to see!
But there are some other musical shrines I’d love to see, including Paisley Park, just outside of Minneapolis, where another member of music royalty – Prince – lived (sometimes), recorded (a ton), and passed away.
From the outside, it looked like an office complex, but inside, was where musical magic was made!
By the way, I love that the Purple One was a big basketball fan, and used to kick back and watch the T-Wolves when he wasn’t hard at work cranking out the hits!
And finally, this one is special to me.
I have played trumpet since I was in Grade Five, back home in Conquest, and the first horn player I ever truly remember hearing was the great Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong.
Whether he was blowing his horn, singing or scattin’ like only he could, the overriding feeling I get listening to “Pops” is pure joy.
And part of that joy came from having a home to settle down in, in the New York City borough of Queens, with his wife Lucille, where he could enjoy life when he wasn’t on the road.
Maybe not as opulent as the homes of other stars, it’s still a beautiful place, and more up Louis’ alley – somewhere that his friends and neighbours could gather together and have a good time.
And the best part, is that if you’re ever in the Big Apple, you can take a tour of the place!
I would be in seventh heaven if I were able to go there!
I think that’d be the number one place I’d love to go and check out. Are there any celebrity homes you’d like to see up close? Let me know in the comments!
Here’s Prince with one of his greatest hits, from the club/concert venue INSIDE Paisley Park! What a life!
