The Mayor of Yorkton is taking the plunge into federal politics.
Aaron Kienle has announced that he will run as the Liberal candidate for Yorkton-Melville in the upcoming federal byelection, made necessary when former Conservative M.P. Cathay Wagantall resigned her seat effective Aug. 31.
Kienle, who was elected Mayor in 2024, says his time on city council, as well as through lobbying efforts at the provincial and federal levels, for projects like the wastewater treatment plant, gives him valuable experience, as he seeks the seat in Parliament.
In a release issued Oct. 29, Kienle notes he hopes to represent Yorkton-Melville on the government side, rather than on the Opposition back benches, with a goal of bringing the concerns of the riding straight to government decision-makers.
