Reader here, and we’re at that traditional transitional point, when Fall is truly setting in.
We’ve enjoyed some relatively warm temperatures into October, but by Thanksgiving weekend, daily highs will be into the single digits, and it’s likely we’ll see some frost before long.
The days are shorter, the autumn air is getting crisp and colder, and the falling leaves are creating yardwork for homeowners, who’ll be busy raking and bagging leaves, mowing lawns and cleaning gutters, in order to be prepared for when the snow flies.
But, you know what?
For all the less likeable things that Fall brings, there’s lots to like about it, too.
First off, the changing colours of the leaves make for a gorgeous backdrop as we go about our days?

That was a snapshot from a couple of weeks ago when I was in Langenburg for the Sporting Dreams Lotto. Makes for a nice photo, doesn’t it?
A fall drive, especially through hills and valleys full of multi-coloured trees is something to behold, too.

Heck, I took a walk yesterday and did a little frolicking. You may have seen the videos on our socials!
Fall also means the start of the holiday season, and with Thanksgiving coming up this weekend, we have an opportunity to hang out with family and friends, enjoy a Thanksgiving feast, and watch some football (c’mon Riders… we need a big win in Montreal this weekend to lock down a playoff spot!)
For many, it also means pumpkin spice season. Y’all can have your pumpkin spice lattes and all that junk. All I need is pumpkin pie, loaded with whipped cream, and I’m good!
Oh yeah, and I almost forgot… fall suppers! As if the Thanksgiving meal isn’t enough, now matter where you go, you can find a delicious turkey supper at your nearest rink, church or community hall, and get together for visits with friends and family, celebrate the end of harvest (hopefully everybody’s done or close to wrapping it up by now), and load up a plate (or two), and then spend the evening trying to pry the closely-guarded recipes for all the delicious desserts that you get to enjoy once a year from your neighbours!
There’s lots to like about Fall, and besides… before long, we’ll be shoveling snow and breaking out the toque, mitts and boots. So let’s enjoy all that Autumn has to offer!
