I got thinking about last month’s Foo Fighters concert at Mosaic Stadium, and what a great time it was.
And then, I got thinking about the one keepsake I’d like to have, but don’t… my ticket.
I get it. Technology has advanced, to the point where all tickets for major events get emailed out, or purchased through the various ticket apps, that allow those tickets to be saved to your digital wallet, and be brought out when you enter a given event.
But, I guess I’m old school. I have all of my ticket stubs saved in a big envelope in my nightstand, and one of these days, I’d like to put together an album or two with my ticket stubs, along with photos and other tidbits from the memorable events that I’ve been lucky enough to attend over the years.
I haven’t kept all of my ticket stubs over the years, but I do have the tickets from the very first Saskatchewan Roughrider game I ever attended (an exhibition matchup against the Sacramento Gold Miners – remember them?) – in June of 1994, along with the 2013 Grey Cup, in which the Green and White hammered Hamilton to claim their fourth title.
I’ve got tickets from most of the concerts I’ve seen, ranging from the Rolling Stones and Oasis, to Paul McCartney, Tony Bennett, Stevie Wonder, Snoop Dogg, Elton John, Sarah McLachlan, and many more.
I’ve got the tickets from all the WWE events I’ve gone to, in Medicine Hat, Saskatoon and Winnipeg, IncyCar races in Vancouver and Edmonton, and the stub from the first (and only) Blue Jays game I experienced at Rogers Centre, when I got to see Roy Halliday pitch against Milwaukee.
And that’s the tip of the iceberg.
Every time I dig those tickets out, it takes me back to those memorable moments.
With things going digital, I suppose I could take screenshots of my digital tickets, but it’s not quite the same.
But maybe, with vinyl and cassettes and CD’s making a comeback, among people who want to own physical media, maybe we’ll see a renaissance for physical tickets, too.
And not from those online shops that let you create a replica ticket. I’m talking the real deal.
The collector in me sure hopes so! How about you?
