Fall officially arrived last night, and with kids already back in the classroom, the summer vacation has come to an end for another activity, as the 2026-27 season has begun for the Yorkton Community Concert Band and the “All That Jazz” Big Band!
The Jazz Band has already been rehearsing for a couple of weeks already, ahead of an event this weekend in Melville. We’ll be providing the entertainment for the Melville Chapter of the Superannuated Teachers of Saskatchewan’s 50th anniversary celebration this Saturday (Sept. 26), at C.N, Community Centre.
Over the summer, the Jazz Band also convened in July, playing at the Yorkton Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion’s 100th anniversary celebration and time capsule opening.
It’s a lot of fun to be able to play at community events such as this, and to make music in general.
One of the great things about the community band, is that everyone is welcome to come and share their musical skills. Whether you’ve been playing for years, or you haven’t picked up an instrument in a long time, but would like to get back into it, you’re encouraged to come on out.
Though the bands are based in Yorkton, members come from all around to come and make music. All ages are welcome, too. The band features players ranging from high school students to senior citizens, and everyone in between.
We all come together for the love of playing music, sharing that with the community.
I’m not sure of the schedule for this season’s concerts and performances, but I’ll have to let you all know when I know.
