Reader here, and it’s been a couple of busy weekends, where I was able to get some great “Uncle Time” in!
Two weekends ago, as you know, I made a trip back home to the farm and in Saskatoon, first enjoying the Guess Who show on June 6th, followed by my niece Abbie’s year-end dance recital the next night.
Then, this past weekend, my two youngest nieces, Ella and Drew, put a bow on their dance season, with their year-end recital on Saturday night in Regina.
Growing up on the farm, it was my Mom and Dad, me, and my three younger brothers, Ward, Curtin and Barrett.
There were lots of hockey, baseball, basketball, volleyball and curling games, along with band concerts, gun club, and lots of other so-called “boy stuff.” But there wasn’t a lot of activities beyond that kind of stuff on our household when we were kids.
Fast forward all these years later, and Curtis and his wife Niki have three girls and a boy, while Ward and his wife Aimee have two girls.
So now, in addition to hockey and football games, ringette games and dance recitals have been added to the mix, and it’s a lot of fun for Uncle Craig to watch the kids do the things they love!
Abbie’s been doing her dance training at Trilogy Academy of Dance and Baton Twirling in Regina, while Ella and Drew train at the Martin School of Dance and Baton in Regina.
They all take part in a number of different disciplines, from ballet to jazz, tap, hip-hop and contemporary, and it’s fantastic to see them develop their skills and talents, and how they progress from one year to the next.
And the girls are another year older, and they grow more confident and showcase their personalities on the stage.
They do so well, and as you can tell, Uncle is super proud! I’m more than happy to make the trip to see them in action.
This year was special for Abbie, as she’s graduating high school, and so this was probably her final recital before she heads out into the world, so I definitely didn’t want to miss that!
The girls have been dancing for years, and just like sports, it one more way that kids develop their skills and confidence and make lasting friendships.
Plus, dancing is a wonderful form of creative expression… Great for the body, mind and soul!
