It’s time to break out the running shoes, as Spring is (hopefully) here to stay, and the 2026 “Learn To Run” clinics have begun!

The run clinics have been a staple of Spring for many years, and is a great way for everyone to knock off the Winter rust, get active, make some new friends (or catch up with old friends), and support the Health Foundation of East Central Saskatchewan.
Everyone is welcome, whether you’re a novice runner with little experience, or a veteran runner. The run clinics run Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting at 5:45 p.m., at the Yorkton Regional High School. The more the merrier!
We’ve just finished up Week #1 of the run clinics, put on by the Yorkton Pacers Running Club, led by our coach, Bernie Wlock.

For the 5K runners, like myself, the first couple of sessions involved brisk walking on the track at Kinsmen Century Field. Then, as we progress, we add in more running, until we end the run clinics with the graduation run, in which we run the 5K course that we will take for this summer’s Health Foundation Charity Road Race.
Race day is Sunday, August 16th, and there is no fee for the “Learn to Run” clinics. All you need to pay is your $40 registration fee for the road race, and you’re good to go. Of course, if you’re so inclined, you can fundraise ahead of the race, as the money raised supports the Health Foundation.
Race Day is always fun, with the kids’ 2K run, followed by the 5K and 10K runs. And of course, once the race is done, we get to enjoy a tasty breakfast, and the medals are handed out.
I’ve been doing the run clinics and Road Race for several years, and it’s a lot of fun!
It’s a great time, and if you’re looking to get up and get active, enjoy the fresh air, and meet some new people and make some friends, the “Learn To Run” clinics are a great place to do so. I’ll be there, and I hope to see you there, too!
