Can’t believe I missed it, but last week Amazon released full trailers for the first live-action Spider-Man TV series in nearly 50 years: Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Noir. And as opposed to the earlier teasers they’d revealed, it actually looks incredible. We get our first look at the villains featured in the series: Silvermane, Sandman, Tombstone, Megawatt (NOT Electro), and a currently unnamed baddie slinging fire at Nic Cage’s Spider-Man. Honestly though, the one question I had watching the trailers: why hasn’t this been Spider-Man for the past 60 years? Not Nic Cage and not a pulp detective vibe, I mean, but long form television following Peter Parker or any of the other Spideys rocking around these days. Forget movies, THIS is what the character was made for. The effects are shockingly good, the action is legible and entertaining, and somehow even a 62 year-old Nic Cage looks good web-swinging.
Oh, and in case the black and white isn’t for you, here’s the full colour version of the trailer (it’s going to be released in both formats) which shockingly ALSO looks great!
A Spider-Man TV show starring Nic Cage will probably be good. Wild.
