Reader here, and I’m still buzzing off of last night’s Sheepdogs show at the Anne Portnuff Theatre.
Since the show was announced a few months ago, I’ve been excited to see them, and after months of anticipation, the boys brought their “Out All Night” tour to Yorkton, and it did not disappoint!
The evening got going with a band I wasn’t familiar with, Surf Hat, from Squamish, B.C., and they were a lot of fun. Grayson and I were able to chat with them a bit before introducing them, and they were a fun, friendly bunch of guys!
- Surf Hat kicked off the evening right!
- Our view of Surf Hat from backstage!
As their name implies, they play a great brand of rock with that classic surf guitar sound, with influences ranging from Rock, Blues and more, and they got the crowd primed and ready for the Sheepdogs!

Thanks to listener Barry Strocen, who sent us this pic!
After Grayson and I got out of the way, it was time for Saskatoon’s own Sheepdogs to take the stage, and rev things up, with their classic rock sound, that can’t help but get you moving and make you feel good.
Speaking of “Feeling Good,” they kicked off their set with that hit, followed in quick succession by two more bangers – “I’ve Got a Hole Where My Heart Should Be,” and “Who?” to get everyone rocking right from the get-go.
The Sheepdogs released their fantastic new album, “Keep Out of the Storm” at the end of February, and it was well-represented, with the awesome title track, along with “Nobody But You” and “I Do,” which featured those trademark Sheepdogs harmonies, and “Bad For Your Health.”
Throughout the show, their musicianship was on display, from Ewen Currie’s powerful voice and guitar chops, to Ryan Gullen’s thumping bass, Shamus Currie on vocals, keys (and trombone!), as well as some fiery lead guitar from Ricky Paquette, who raided the YRHS Drama Department’s costume closet, emerging for the encore dressed as a leprechaun! This tour also sees the band with a new man behind the drumkit, with Trevor Falls sitting in, following the departure of original drummer Sam Corbett, and he kept the beat rolling all night long.
The rest of the setlist included hits ranging from “I Don’t Know,” to “How Late, How Long,” to “The Way It Is.”
Just an outstanding show all around, and well worth the wait!
Here’s few more shots from the evening!
Once again, an awesome evening of great Canadian Rock ‘n’ Roll, with a big thank you to Performance Promotions for brining this great show to our fair city!
I mentioned the new album, and it is a great one! Here’s the killer title track, which you heard at last night’s show:
