What’s up, everybody? Reader here, back in the saddle again, after a nice little ten-day break.
It’s always nice to have some time off, but it’s always good to get back into the usual routine.
I have to admit though, that after almost a week and a half of sleeping in, it was tough getting moving this morning. And truthfully, I didn’t sleep much. An afternoon nap is definitely in order!
What did I get up to on my time off? Well, I hit the road for the farm on the 14th got home a few hours after the first calf of the season was born! As of last night, we’re up to eight calves – five heifer calves and three bull calves, with another 20-25 to come, but so far, so good!
We did have to go on a little search mission for one calf, however, as it wandered off and luckily, we found it nestled down in some tall grass in the trees around our garden. Fortunately, no coyotes struck, and the little calf is safe!
As well, I helped Dad move a bunch of barley from the ground storage to the bin, putting my shoveling muscles to use once again. Guess it’s a good thing we’ve been getting so much snow this winter – I’m in prime shovellin’ shape!
After the work was done, I spent last Wednesday in Saskatoon, doing some running around, hitting a few shops, before making my way out to SaskTel Centre to catch the Saskatoon Blades in action against the visiting Brandon Wheat Kings. When it comes to the Dub, I grew up less than an hour out of Saskatoon, and lived in the Bridge City for about eight years before moving to Yorkton. So the Blades will always be my “home team” in the Western Hockey League.

Fortunately, the good guys came out on top, as the Blades downed the Wheaties, 6-2!
But that wasn’t the only hockey I got to take in, as on Friday, my parents and I took a little road trip to Bethune, to catch my nephew Hadley in playoff action, as his Lumsden-Bethune U18B Lions took on the Regina Buffaloes.

My nephew between the pipes, with his Lumsden-Bethune U18B Lions in playoff action. They’re off to the league final!
Had and his team played a great game, winning 6-2, and since wrapping up the best-of-three series in two straight. They’ll now square off against the Regina Mustangs in the league final! I sure hope they can get it done and bring home the trophy!
Then, on Saturday, we made another trip into Saskatoon, to visit my youngest brother Barrett and his wife Claudia, along with our brother Ward, his wife Aimee, and their daughters, Abbie and Brynn, for a delicious homemade pasta supper! The girls helped make the all of the pasta noodles and potato gnocchi, which was amazing! Everyone was full, and a good time was had by all!
Before I came back to Yorkton last night, Mom, Dad and I got in a few rounds of Scrabble and Yahtzee, and we had an early Easter dinner, since I won’t make it home for the long weekend. Ham and all the fixin’s, and our Read/Roemer family cabbage rolls, which are the best you’ll find anywhere! My Auntie Ivy made some and brought some down for Dad, and he was kind enough to share them with his firstborn!
All in all, a great little break, and a nice little holiday before getting back to the grind!
