Reader here, and I’m going to let you in on a little secret… I’m not exactly what you would call a “morning person.”
Now, you might be saying, “But Reader, aren’t you on the morning show every day?”
Yes, indeed. In fact, November 1st of the this year marks 15 years of waking up super-early, and helping you all get rolling as your day begins.
However, going back to my school days, I was never the first one out of bed. Usually, Mom or Dad would have to come and give me a few reminders to get my butt out of bed.
That’s a trend that has continued to this day.
My first year of college in Medicine Hat, back in 1995-96 saw me miss a few classes just to sleep in (though one of the worst winters the city had seen in years, combined with a lack of enthusiasm for the mile walk from my apartment to campus, and a tough time adjusting to being on my own for the first time, all had something to do with it!)
Now in summer time, it is much easier rolling out of bed, as by the time I need to get up, the sun is already rising, and the sunshine makes it feel like daytime.
During winter, though, it’s much tougher, as it’s pitch black until just about 9 a.m., and then it’s dark by 5 p.m.
Not to mention it’s cold outside in winter, and all I want to do is stay in my nice, warm bed!

Homer gets me!
On top of that, since I moved into my new place, I don’t have any windows in my bedroom, so I don’t have any rays of sunlight to help me rise and shine every morning.
For years, I used to have a really hard time getting to sleep, and then, I’d often wake up several times through the night, so often, in the morning, I wouldn’t feel very rested.
That’s not really a problem now, though my sleep schedule is pretty odd nowadays. How does my day go?
My first alarms start going off at 3 a.m. each day.

My alarms start going off at 3 a.m. everyday. But, as you can see, I do tend to make use of my snooze buttons more than once!
Along with my alarm clock, I have have three alarms set on my phones. And I hit snooze on each of those a few times, as well.

Ultimately, I’m usually out of bed by 3:40-3:45, with enough time to brush my teeth, deodorize, fix my hair, get dressed, and drive to work, arriving in the office around 4:05-4:10 a.m. each day!
On a usual work day, if I’m not on location, have meetings, or other work-related stuff of other appointments, I’m usually home around 12:30, when I have a bite for lunch, then crash out on Ol’ Couchy for a couple of hours, then wake up and continue on with my day.
Bedtime is usually anywhere from 11 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., and then the whole cycle starts again.
Definitely a weird routine, but it works for me!
I am getting better in one respect, though. When I was young, sleeping in meant staying in bed until noon. Now, as a middle-aged man, sleeping in is more like 7:30-8:00. Or, if I really want to spoil myself, I’ll stay in bed until 9 a.m.!
How times change!
