Hey everybody! Reader here, and, well, we made it. It’s the last day of 2025, and it was quite a year.
I’m not going to recap world events, because overall, there was a lot of good and a lot of bad, and you all have the internet, so if you’re looking for extensive “year in review,” articles they’re easy enough to find!
Personally, there were some great things, including a move. After 15 years living in downtown Yorkton, I moved out of my apartment, into a basement suite on the south edge of the city. I’m nicely settled in, and it’s been a great move (though I’ve shoveled more snow in the past month, than I did over the past 15 years!
Meanwhile, 2025 was a big year for my family.
Firstly, my oldest niece, Sofie, graduated from Greenall High School in Balgonie in June, and started her first year at the University of Regina in the fall. (Now I’m starting to feel old!)
And in August, we had a big Read family reunion back home in Conquest, with family coming from across Saskatchewan, Alberta and B.C., as well as Reads from the England branch of the family tree – some, that I had only met over Facebook! We had a blast visiting, reminiscing, and reconnecting. Hopefully we can all get together and do it again sooner, rather than later!
And in September. my Mom turned 70, and we all got together in Saskatoon, to celebrate the milestone!
Looking forward to 2026, there’ll be another graduate in the family, as my niece Abbie will graduate from St. Joseph’s High School in Saskatoon, and take her first steps into adulthood, meanwhile by the end of the coming year, my nephew Hadley and niece Brynn will be able to get their drivers licences!
And there are a couple of big birthdays coming up in 2026 – my Dad turns 70, while my youngest niece, Drew, hits the decade mark, turning 10!
I can’t wait to see what the new year has in store for me, my family, friends, and all of you!
That’s the great thing about the start of a new year – there’s a big, blank canvas stretched out before us, that we each get to paint or write our own stories upon.
Are you one to make a bunch of New Year’s resolutions? I’ve never been one for resolutions. I always find that if I make a big, sweeping resolution, like “I AM going to _______,” it sets me up for failure, as I might start off the year with the best of intentions, and stick to my pledge for a few weeks, before quietly abandoning my big plan.
So instead, I always try to simply “do better” in a bunch of different areas.
I’ll work to be better with my money. I’ll do my best to eat better and improve my overall physical fitness. I’ll try to be better at keeping in touch with friends and family near and far.
For me, it’s all about small, achievable goals, that I can work at, and chip away at the list, rather than trying to do one big thing that might be too much to accomplish all at once.
Whatever the New Year holds for you, I hope it’s amazing!
Oh, and another of my favourite things about 2025? Well, that’d be the reunion of Oasis. of course!
When Noel and Liam Gallagher had their biggest blowup, back in 2009, that led to the band’s split, I don’t know if anyone thought they’d be able to patch things up. But it happened, and they embarked on arguably the biggest tour of the year, selling out stadiums everywhere they went, and reminding the world how amazing they are when they’re on their game. I didn’t get to see them on the reunion tour, but Liam’s been teasing that there may be more to come in 2026. Fingers crossed that I may be able to see them again in ’26.
Let’s close out 2025 with a highlight from one of their hometown shows, on July 11th, at Heaton Park, in Manchester, England. Enjoy, and I’ll see you in 2026!
