YORKTON – Yorkton Hyundai has once again played Santa Claus for Kidsport in Yorkton with a donation of $4,100.
The donation is the fourth year – the total donations have been more than $15,000 — the car dealership has supported Kidsport with the money helping young people stay involved in sport, said Doug Jonasson, chair of Yorkton Kidsport.
Through Kidsport families may apply for up to $500 to help defray the cost of registration in a range of sports from hockey to taekwondo to bowling, explained Jonasson.
Jonasson said in 2023 the local program paid out some $25,000 to help 69 youth – the program is for those up to age 18 – pay their sport registration fees.
In 2024 the program supported 111 youth for $36,000.
Jonasson said growing numbers reflect tighter financial times for families, so the need for support grows, which is why donations such as the one from Hyundai is so important.
“It’s the biggest donation we get each year,” he said.
Hyundai Yorkton’s Ron Kaban said he is happy to support Kidsport.
“I think it’s just a great thing to help a lot of kids,” he said.
Jonasson said certainly keeping youth is important as the experience enhances their lives in many ways.
