Reader here, and over the weekend, I finished up a little project, aimed at giving myself a wee bit more storage space in my kitchen.
I moved from my apartment downtown, to a basement suite on the south edge of Yorkton at the end of July, and it’s been a great move. One unexpected change, though, is that I have slightly less cupboard space now, than I did before.
I downsized a fair bit when I moved (and truth be told, I probably could stand to do some more yet), but I’m still a bit short on space.
So, a few weeks ago, I bought a pantry/microwave stand unit, that has some shelving and cupboards in it, in order to have a bit more room to put things away.
Here’s the catch. (And there’s alway a catch.)
Assembly required.
I cracked open the box on Saturday, laid all the pieces out on the kitchen floor, and got to work.
After getting the first few pieces together, I found myself trying to decipher the (way too small) printing and diagrams on the instructions, and I couldn’t make heads nor tails of it. Finally, I said “forget it,” and went to bed instead.
Sunday morning, I got up and took a look at everything with a fresh set of eyes, and suddenly, everything made sense.
A few hours later, voila!
I had a storage unit!

Turned out pretty good, all in all!
But, as usual, there’s one small imperfection… The drawer doesn’t quite close properly.

Not a real noticeable thing, unless you’re looking at it really close. The important thing is that I can still use the drawer!
Now, I just have to figure out what exactly I’m going to pack in there. That’s Part B!
But the important thing is that the unit is built, and I didn’t stab myself with any screws, or bash my thumb with a hammer. And that is a big win all by itself!
Oh, and now that the calendar has flipped over to December, and there’s snow on the ground, Christmas Time has officially arrived!
In honour of that, let’s kick off te holiday season with one of my faves… Enjoy!
