Swan River RCMP have arrested a man after responding to a disturbance in the Emergency Room at the Swan Valley Health Centre on November 23.
Police were called at 2:30 p.m. for a report of an unknown man, believed to be intoxicated, who had locked himself inside a bathroom in the ER.
Officers say the man was not a patient at the hospital.
When officers arrived and opened the door, they found a man known to police holding a knife.
RCMP say the suspect ignored repeated demands to drop the weapon.
A conducted energy weapon was then used, allowing officers to safely take the 45-year-old man into custody.
The suspect, who is from Sapotaweyak Cree Nation, had suffered a minor self-inflicted injury before police arrived. He was treated at the hospital and later transported into custody.
He has been charged with possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes.
Swan River RCMP continue to investigate.
