Reader: Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow!

By Craig Reader Oct 2, 2025 | 5:59 PM

Reader here!  October is here, fall is here, and with that, it felt like a good time to freshen up the look.

I went for a haircut yesterday, to clean up a bit.  Not that I was looking shabby.  I always make sure I look presentable, of course.  But sometimes, it’s nice to clean right up, and start from scratch.

For reference, here I am earlier this week, and then this morning.

It’s actually amazing what a simple thing like a shave and haircut can do for your mood.

Getting rid of all of that hair almost feels cleansing in a way.  It’s like after you’ve written all over a sheet of paper on a pad, and then you tear the sheet off, revealing a fresh new sheet of paper to doodle on.

Ultimately, of course, what’s on the outside isn’t the most important thing.  It’s who you are on the inside that really matters.  But sometimes, freshening things up can just make you feel good.

I believe that it was originally NFL Hall of Fame receiver Jerry Rice, who famously went by the “look good, feel good, play good” motto, that was later seized upon by another NFL legend, “Prime Time” Deion Sanders.

Whether it’s a new ‘do, a fresh new pair of sneakers or a brand-new bunnyhug, like Deion says, it’s all about how you present yourself, and the confidence you carry into each day.

It’s kind of like a suit of armour that makes you feel that much more ready to face the world!

When you feel confident in your appearance, it’s almost like going from mild-mannered Clark Kent to Superman, and your whole demeanor and how you carry yourself changes.

(Random aside – if there’s ever been a better superhero theme than that created by John Williams for “Superman,” I’d like to hear it!)

It’s all about self care.  Do what makes you feel good, and puts you in a positive mindset to carry you through your day.  Be it on the inside or the outside, don’t be afraid to do what makes you feel best, and put your best foot forward in whatever you do, whether it’s a day at school, a job interview, or a first date.

And again, remember that although what’s on the outside can be important, the person you are on the inside is what matters most.  Be awesome, and you’ll project awesome to the world!
