Reader here! I had a busy Saturday, as it was full of sports.
My day started with something new, that I had never done before, as I served as the volunteer public address announcer for the Yorkton Kinsmen Junior and Senior Lady Gridders, as they took on the Regina Junior and Senior Victorias in exhibition action, at Kinsmen Century Field.

It was great to see lots of family and friends come out cheer on the ladies, and in the end, the Jr. Lady Gridders lost a close one, while the Senior squad soundly defeated the visitors.
As far as my exploits on the P.A. all went well, (other than being distracted by the heavenly scent of burgers on the barbecue), there were no hiccups with the music, and I’m looking forward to doing it again this coming Saturday, when the Senior Lady Gridders host the Moosomin Generals!

After spending the afternoon at the football field, I made my way over to Westland Arena in the evening, as Cruz FM ad our sister station GX94 were proud and excited to be the game sponsor for the Yorkton Terriers’ home opener against the Weyburn Red Wings.
The Terriers dropped the season opener, 5-4 in a shootout in Weyburn the previous night, and the home side were hoping to turn things around on home ice.

I helped out with the shootout and giveaways during the first intermission, and I was joined at the game by GX morning show host Danny Ismond, Ryleigh from our sales team, and the voice of the Terriers (and Millionaires and Stampeders), Benny Walchuk.
Unfortunately, the Terriers fell behind early, and weren’t able to come back, dropping a 6-2 decision to the Red Wings.
But it was a great crowd, of over 1,700 in the stands to kick off the new season, making lots of noise and cheering on the home side.
It’ll a long season ahead – I’m looking forward to making more trips to the rink!
