Reader’s getting ready to move… across town!

Reader here, and I’m in the midst of a relatively major life shift.

For the first time since June of 2010, I’m moving…  but don’t worry – I’m just moving across town!

I’ve been living in my current building since 2010.  For the first year, I lived in a two-room bachelor apartment.  Not a big spot, but big enough.

To get to it, you accessed it via a private walkway from the hall, which also led to the bachelor suite next to mine, and the bathroom… that we had to share.

That last part…  I thought I’d be cool with sharing the bathroom with a random stranger.  Nope.  It got old fast, and after a year, I was looking for a new spot.

As it happened, some friends of mine that lived down the hall (and used to work at the station) were moving out of their place, and suggested I move in.

It worked out well.  I got a bigger place and MY OWN BATHROOM!  (It’s the little things!)

I’ve been perfectly happy there, and have lived in that spot since 2011.  I hadn’t been looking for anything, but an opportunity to move into a nice, big basement fell into my lap.

Following a sizable rent increase on my apartment on Canada Day, when this opportunity came up, I jumped on it.

In fact, in the new spot, I’ll be paying a bit more, but I’m getting more value for money, with some perks I haven’t had in 15 years.  Like my own laundry (instead of having to share with everybody else in the building), a driveway to park in (and where I can plug in in winter), and use of a backyard, where I’ll be able to put a barbecue (which also means I’ll be cooking more at home, saving myself a bit more money).

I admit, I’m quite excited at the prospect of the move.  I’ve been needing a bit of a change, so I think this will be good for me.

The only hard part – sorting and packing all of my stuff.  You never realize how much stuff you accumulate until you have to move it all.

I’ve been busy sorting stuff, donating stuff that I don’t want to move, and cleaning up as I go.  It’ll all get done, and I’ll get moved by the end of July, but it’s a super-busy time, and it feels like it’ll never get done in time!

All I can do is stop, take a breath, and figure out a plan of attack.  And try not to worry too much about lugging all of my worldly possessions down from the third floor!

In the end, though, it’ll be worth it, for a fresh start in a new space!
