Reader here! While I’ve been jumping around helping out in different departments, I haven’t checked in to chat about my favourite development of the summer.
That’d be the matter of the kickoff of the the Oasis reunion tour, which got going on July 4th, in Cardiff, Wales.
What I wouldn’t give to be at just one of those shows. Doesn’t matter where. If I had the cash, I’d jump on a plane in a heartbeat.
You all know by now that the Rolling Stones are my absolute favourite band of all-time. But Oasis are a very close second, if not “1-A.”
There’s something about the wall of sound, the notoriously combustible relationship between the Gallagher brothers, and of course, the songs… Oasis hit me in the gut and in the feels like few other artists or bands ever have.
Yeah, Noel and Liam tend to run their mouths. They can be super obnoxious, but more often, they’re frickin’ hilarious. You ask ’em what they think, and they’re not afraid to tell you.
But they have always backed up their talk with their music. It’s pretty tough to argue with an estimated 100 million album sales worldwide.
“Live Forever… Don’t Look Back In Anger…Champagne Supernova… Supersonic… D’You Know What I Mean… Acquiesce… The Masterplan… Supersonic… and of course, Wonderwall.”
The songs are immortal.
Many people say “Yeah, but they never really made it big in the United States.” As if they’re the only country that matters. Especially nowadays, I think more and more people realize that the world is much bigger than the U.S. would have you believe.
And Oasis has always been massive around the world, especially if ticket sales have been any indicator!
They’re in the midst of a five-show run in their hometown of Manchester, England, and will be travelling around the U.K., before heading to North America, Asia and Australia.
What’s cool about the band this tour, is that it’s a mix of the original and newer versions of Oasis.
Oasis co-founder Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs is back, while fellow guitarist Gem Archer and bassist Andy Bell, who both joined after Bonehead and Guigsy’s departure have also returned. On the drums is Joey Waronker, who Noel Gallagher introduced as “our 14th drummer,” to round out the group.
And they sound fantastic! The band is tight, and Liam’s voice is sounding better than it has in years. Check this out, from opening night in Cardiff!!
Another great thing about this tour, is how it is bringing generations together. From people who were fans from day one, to their kids, who have discovered the band on their own, it brings everybody together in an explosion of good vibes, and communal singalongs.
But to me, the best thing about the tour? This…
To see Noel and Liam getting along as brothers is what it’s all about. Family is family, and that’s a bond unlike any other.
To those who are lucky enough to see the Oasis reunion in person, enjoy!
However long it may last, let’s just enjoy the ride. Perhaps it’s all part of the Masterplan…
