Reader + Hot Dogs = True Love 4-Ever!

Reader here, and I’m back after a great afternoon in Churchbridge yesterday, as Churchbridge Credit Union is holding their Community Appreciation days, with barbecues yesterday at the Churchbridge branch, and today in Langenburg.
It’s always a great time to hang out with the fantastic crew there. They’re a lot of fun, and I won’t lie, another big reason it’s fun to be there?
The food, specifically those delicious gourmet hot dogs, with all the fixins’.
To start with? Only, the best hot dogs in the world – Harvest Hot Dogs, made in Yorkton. Then, add in the soft buns, to cradle those delicious dogs like a pillow. Then? They have a ton of toppings, with everything from the usual suspects, like mustard, ketchup and relish and onions, to the more luxurious toppings, like banana peppers, chili, nacho cheese and sauerkraut!
So delicious!
There are few things as delicious as a good hot dog, whether its on the BBQ, roasted over a fire, or even in the air fryer.  I often do mine in the broiler in the oven!
There is one exception, though.  Perhaps it’s the memory of too many elementary school hot dog sales back home in Conquest, but don’t give me a boiled hot dog.  Gross.  The smell of hot dog water alone makes me gag.
But, I digress.

I’ve gotta say, that hot dogs sometimes get a bad rap, and I s’pose it’s because of what goes into them and how they’re made.

Health-conscious folks tend to get in a flap, and worry and fret over processed meats, preservatives, or not knowing exactly what’s inside the bun.

But let’s be real… When you’re craving something quick, tasty, and nostalgic, doesn’t a good hot dog hit the spot just right?

And really, as an aside, isn’t bologna just flat hot dogs?  I love a good bologna sandwich, and when you fry it up?  Delicious!  But that’s another topic for another day.

These days, for the hot dog connoisseur,  there are so many options out there to choose from, from all-beef or turkey, to plant-based and organic choices (though I’ve tried a veggie dog once, and it was one of the worst things I’ve ever eaten… but you do you!), so you can enjoy one of the greatest comfort foods of all-time any way you like.

At the end of the day, it’s all about balance and savoring those simple pleasures.  What’s your take:  are hot dogs misunderstood, or do you have your own reasons for loving (or avoiding) them?

Me?  I love ’em.  Maybe a little too much!  Haha!
