A slight DIY error

I’m the type of person who likes to alter the things I wear. Whether that’s altering it to fit better, sewing patches, adding embroidery, it’s just something that’s fun to do. For instance, when I first moved to Yorkton, I’d just bought and bleached a vintage denim jacket to match my favourite pair of jeans (and got some great tips from the listeners about getting rid of the bleach smell lol). So it was business as usual when I decided to bleach another jacket, this time to white so I could dye it and add a bit more colour to the summer wardrobe.

I looked up some guides on bleaching denim white, since this was my first time doing it, and they recommended to leave it in the bleach for 48 hours. Which is all well and good until you forget you’ve got a bucket of bleach sitting in the garage for 4 days.

Now on the plus side: it’s totally white! On the negative: those holes weren’t there before. And I’ll admit to being stumped on how it happened.

My guess is that the bleach interacted with rust that was on the buttons and that somehow ate through the denim? If you’ve got any guesses, feel free to drop them in the comments.

Anyways, this is one of the expected risks of DIY projects. But half the fun is fixing your screw-ups, and I’ve already got a few ideas in mind.
