Reader here! The 78th Yorkton Film Festival just wrapped up over the weekend, and a lot visitors, from film industry professionals, to budding filmmakers, to film buffs took in the festivities.
In an interview with SaskToday.ca the film’s executive director, Randy Goulden, says around 5,500 people took in the various events that made up the festival, which culminated with Saturday night’s Golden Sheaf Awards gala.
Congratulations goes out to all of those who took home hardware, especially the evening’s big winner, “Saving the Animals of Ukraine,” directed by Anton Ptushkin, which won four awards, including Best of Festival.
Meanwhile, another documentary, “Tailor Made,” directed by Quan Luong, won three awards, while Versa Films’ music video for “Perfect Soul,” by Spiritbox, took home two awards, including the Ruth Shaw Best of Saskatchewan Award.
There were many events enjoyed by festivalgoers, including one held in cooperation with the Yorkton Lions Club, which is always a big draw – the annual Lobsterfest, held in conjunction with the Film Festival, out at the Yorkton Wildlife Federation Clubhouse at York Lake..
It’s a great opportunity for the community and those taking part in the festival rub shoulders, let their hair down, and enjoy a fun, relaxed evening, with great food, beverages and entertainment.
Grayson and I took in the evening, and had a great time!

Grayson went for a succulent lobster, while I enjoyed a massive 15-ounce striploin steak. We were both very happy with our choices!
There was a big crowd out enjoying the beautiful evening, which featured music by Jackie Guy, and the ever-popular skeet shooting!
- Jackie Guy and her band entertained the big crowd on hand.
- Lots of folks took part in the skeet shooting!
All in all, it was a great night, and a lot of fun was had by everyone in attendance, from locals to out-of-towners.
- The tent was full with a great meal enjoyed by all.
- Look at those steaks on the grill! I culd go for another right now!
I’m already looking forward to next year (and dreaming of those giant steaks!)
