Reader’s Super Saturday in Swan River!

By Craig Reader May 6, 2025 | 4:33 PM

Hey, everybody!  Reader here, and I just wanted to recap a fun evening I had in Swan River over the weekend, as once again, I got to be the roving master of ceremonies for the 38th annual Swan Valley Sport Fishing Enhancement Banquet.

I’ve been fortunate to be able to MC this event for several years, and it’s always a highlight of the year, and it’s one I enjoy year after year.

The evening raises money to support the great work of SVSFE, which covers everything from stocking lakes with fish, to conducting research projects, building and maintaining docks, running fishing camps for kids and so much more.  The work they do helps to ensure the health of the waterways in the Swan Valley ad surrounding area, making sure that everyone, of all ages, get to enjoy their favourite outdoor pursuits.

To that end, to raise money, there were live and silent auctions, games of chance, and the annual boat raffle and 50/50 draw.

By the way, congratulations to the big prize winners – Marvin Vestby, who won the 2025 Lund 1600 Fury Heritage Edition fishing boat, complete with a Mercury 25-horsepower four-stroke motor and the trailer to haul it all, and Jesse Hutchinson, who won the 50-50, taking home $9,485!

Of course, one of the big highlights of this event every year, is the meal.  I say it every year, but I mean it… It’s one of the best meals you’ll have anywhere!

A big thanks to the Manitoba Natural Resources crew, who, year after year, provide their expertise and fry up a TON of delicious fish!

So good!  And the huge crowd enjoyed the feast, starting off with the hors d’oeuvres table, featuring all kinds of smoked fish, to tide everybody over until supper was served, and then the line was huge as everyone patiently waited to get their meals!

It was a great night, and I want to thank everyone from Swan Valley Sport Fishing Enhancemet for once again asking me to be a part of the big night.  They have a great crew of fantastic folks, and I tip my cap to them!

Oh, and thanks to my little buddies, Henry and Issac.  Henry was in there like a dirty shirt, helping me make the draws for the ticket draws, and Isaac once again was kind enough to give me a new lure to try out.  I haven’t had any luck with the one he gave me last year, but maybe this new one will catch me some fish!

Thanks for the lure, Isaac!

As always, I had a blast, and I’m already looking forward to next year!
