Hey, everybody! Reader here.
Of course, as you all know, I spent most of last week in Langenburg, for the final ticket push for the Sporting Dreams Lotto.
The money raised through the sale of lotto tickets, supports the Langenburg Multiplex Fundraising Committee. The community is busy raising money to build a new, multi-purpose recreational facility.
The current arena has been in use for several decades, and it has served the community very well, but like any facility of that type, as time goes on, it requires more and more upkeep and repairs. And it’s now reached that point where if makes more sense to build something new.
With that, comes the opportunity to think big, and add new features!
The centrepiece of the new Multiplex would be a new rink, with a concrete pad underneath it, instead than sand, as is the case in the current arena, which means the new facility’s ice surface could be used all year long, even when the ice is out, for a host of events beyond hockey and figure skating.
Additional features being explored for the Multiplex include an indoor walking track and indoor multi-use spaces that can be used for all sorts of sports and cultural and community events.
When the Multiplex is built, it will be an amazing thing for the town of Langenburg and the surrounding area.
But first, the money needs to be in place to plan and build the facility.
And that’s where the funds raised through ticket sales for the lotto come in.
Last week, ticket sales wrapped up, and for the final three days, I was there to remind you to get yours. I made sure I got mine, too, because I definitely wanted a chance to win some big money!

Well, the prize draws were made on Saturday afternoon, with the help of Rita, who was celebrating her 100th birthday! Very cool, and a Happy (belated) birthday, Rita!
Who were the big winners? Here’s a list of those lucky winners:
GRAND PRIZE (Option of $100,000 cash or 1 of two pickup trucks) – Marie Chudzik (Canora)
SECOND PRIZE ($10,000 cash) – Scott Condliffe (Esterhazy)
EIGHT PRIZES OF $1,000 – Diane Fischer, Barry van Koughnett, Garry Hildebrandt, Chris Kendall, Maureen Bradshaw, Jean Fowler, Elaine Tomsha, B.J. Wowchuk
50/50 DRAW – (WINNER TAKES HOME $28,762.50) – Emma & Ledya Ruf (Rhein)
So, there you have it – all of the winners for the 2026 edition of the Langenburg Sporting Dreams Lotto!
My name didn’t find its way onto the winner’s list, but there’s always next year! Besdies, the important thing is that a ton of people bought tickets and supported the Multiplex, recognizing the value of this endeavour.
Once again, thank you to everyone who bought tickets, and to all of the organizers and volunteers who helped to make the lotto another big success this year.
I can’t wait to do it again in 2027!
