Reader here, and over the weekend, I was able to be part of a fun evening of music and dancing, at the Yorkton Victory Church.
I play in the All That Jazz Community Big Band, and we were invited to play as part of the second annual Big Band Swing Dance, presented by the Yorkton Regional High School Music Department on Saturday night.
It was a fundraiser for the Jazz Band’s upcoming trip to Edmonton, and it was a blast!
The evening started with some swing dance lessons by a pair of students.
It was fairly easy, and great for the novice swing dancer (like yours truly!).
Then, the YRHS Jazz Band took the stage, with Katia Georgeson leading the podium, and they played a ton of great Jazz standards that had the people up and dancing!
They did a fantastic job!
And after that, the All That Jazz Big Band, joined by vocalist Stephanie Andres, and led by Larry Pearen, took the stage, playing tunes ranging from “Blue Skies,” to “Route 66,” to “A String of Pearls,” “Fly Me to the Moon,” “Jersey Bounce,” and many more.
It was great to see lots of folks of all ages get up and cut a rug!
This was my view from the back row of the band!
Pretty cool! And as the evening went on, the dance floor filled up!
Along with the music and dancing, there was a table filled with delicious baked goodies for sale!
(By the way, kudos to whoever brought the puffed wheat cake cupcakes topped with mini eggs! That was genius!)
There was also a big table full of raffle prizes, so I bought a bunch of tickets, throwing them in on several cool prizes, like an air fryer, a soundbar, some honey packages, and a nice afghan blanket (which I actually won!)

All in all, it was a fantastic evening!
