Well we’ve gotten some short clips and stills from the upcoming Green Lantern tv show Lanterns over the past few months, but now the first full teaser is out. The pitch since it was first announced was “True Detective with cops from space” and I mean, that is pretty much exactly what it looks like! What it doesn’t look like? A show about Green Lanterns! It makes sense why they changed the name to just Lanterns because come on.
The impact of Ryan Reynolds needs to be studied, because Green Lantern (the movie) sucked, but not enough to justify this level of embarrassment around making a Green Lantern show more than 10 years on. Like seriously, this is on the same level as the leather fetish gear the X-Men were running around in back in the year 2000!
On the other hand, the cast isn’t half bad. Kyle Chandler of Friday Nights Lights fame and Aaron Pierre of Rebel Ridge star as Hal Jordan and John Stewart, the two most famous of the 20 or so Green Lanterns there’ve been. I grew up on Justice League Unlimited, so I’m personally very excited to see the Stewart iteration on screen (hopefully just in a better costume).
