Reader here! After loads of speculation, the rumours are true… Metallica is heading to Las Vegas in October, for a residency at the Sphere!
James, Lars, Kirk and Robert made the announcement made the announcement yesterday.
The shows are scheduled for Oct. 1 & 3, 15 & 17, 22 & 24, and 29 & 31, and will follow the “No Repeat Weekend” formula of their M72 tour, that saw them play two nights at each tour stop, with a completely different setlist from one night to the next!
The Sphere has hosted residencies by U2, the Eagles, Phish, Dead & Company and the Backstreet Boys, but now it’s going to get heavy!
How awesome will this be?
From their very first video, for “One,” from 1988’s “…And Justice for All” to today, Metallica have embraced visuals to enhance their music.
Of course, they’ve done countless live performance videos, but then they’ve really stepped out and come up with some really interesting stuff for some of their other videos. Check out the animated monster movie video for “All Nightmare Long,” from 2008’s “Death Magnetic.”
It’s going to to be very interesting to see what they come up with for the Sphere, which boasts the world’s highest resolution LED display, and allows for the creation of mind-blowing visual effects!
I’ve seen Metallica live in concert on four occasions, and it’s been awesome each time. But I’ve never seen them in an all-immersive atmosphere like the Sphere, with its capabilities for high-def imagery. And Metal to the mix? It’s gonna be awesome!
In the tour trailer, the images alluded to their album covers over the years, from the cross on “Master of Puppets,” the coffin from “Death Magnetic,” the hammer from “Kill ‘Em All,” the fist from “St. Anger,” the electric chair from “Ride the Lightning” and the crib, from their most recent album, “72 Seasons.”
What will they have in store for the Sphere? Time will tell.
And if you want to see it for yourself, presales begin on March 5, and tickets go on sale to the general public on March 6.
Maybe it’s time for another Vegas roadie!
