Reader here, and we’re deep into the dog days of winter now.
Weather-wise, it’s been so up and down, with temperatures fluctuating from the minus-30s, to the plus side, sometimes withing the space of about a week.
It’s hard to get acclimatized to the weather, if it doesn’t stay consistent. That usually ends up with many people coming down with colds, and I’m no exception. I got hit with one last week, and I think for the most part, I’m over it, thank goodness. The diet of Buckley’s, nasal spray and orange juice seems to have done the trick!
Anyway, the winter weather has me thinking about hot holidays, and how much I’d love to take another one!
I’ve only ever taken one – at the end of November 2011, when me, one of my best friends, Neil, and some other friends embarked upon a 7-day eastern Caribbean cruise, aboard the Carnival Liberty.
We made stops in Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas, St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Grand Turk, in the Turks and Caicos.
It was so much fun getting to explore new places, meeting new people, eating great food, and doing some fun stuff, like snorkeling in the ocean in Grand Turk (spotting an actual barracuda, while humming Heart’s song by the same name was surreal!), touring the Bacardi distillery in San Juan, and being part of the mainstage entertainment on the final night of the cruise, when a number of passengers got to perform songs in front of a packed theatre, joined by the ship’s band and dancers. (Me? I performed Ricky Martin’s “Livin’ La Vida Loca.” I even have it on DVD!)
I’ve talked of the numerous places I’d love to travel, with Japan sitting atop the list, England, to visit family and watch Manchester United play at Old Trafford, as well as to go across Europe, to see famous landmarks and historical sites, such as the Eiffel Tower and Colosseum, as well as to see wartime sites that you only see in history books and documentaries.
But a hot holiday would be so nice right about now. But where would I like to go?
Another Caribbean excursion would be fantastic, perhaps checking out places I didn’t see previously.
Hawaii would be nice! Warm weather, check out the volcanoes, and see Pearl Harbor.
An all-inclusive resort would be nice, maybe in Mexico (current unrest notwithstanding!)
Jamaica would be awesome, too. Especially the music culture.
That’s the great thing – it’s such a big world to explore. Maybe someday, I’ll have enough in the bank to jet (or sail) off and just explore!
Until then… back to work I go! Haha!
