The big trend in pyrotechnics the past few years has been the drone show: massive co-ordinated flight stunts featuring thousands upon thousands of quad-copter drones, each equipped with a massively bright LED in their undercarriage. With a hell of a lot of math, they can be made to form any number of images. Most of the time these are just words or still images (usually promoting sports or beer or the USA), but sometimes companies will go to the next level with it: case in point, Apple’s promotional stunt for the new season of their Godzilla show Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.
Guinness verified the show as the tallest ever performed, with a Godzilla taller than the Statue of Liberty that could be seen from 3 miles away. An incredible show that was probably also the single most terrifying thing some guy going through a bad trip could possibly witness. And there’s no way to say for sure, but I’d hope there were at least a few Los Angelinos re-enacting the famous Austin Powers bit.
