Heineken recently announced the layoff of 6,000 employees, a move attributed by industry studies to the drinking habits of Gen Z, who are consuming less alcohol than previous generations. And personally, I’m proud that we of Gen Z are being blamed for killing industries! Up until now, the downfall of every industry was blamed on Millenials:
Over the years, millennials have faced criticism for the decline of everything from casual dining chains and golf courses to the diamond and napkin industries. Headlines have frequently accused millennials of “killing” these markets. But of course, past headlines, the “killing” is always just stuff like favoring experiences over possessions, prioritizing health and sustainability, or using digital alternatives. But that’s not as catchy and you can’t get mad at young people for that.
Still, I’m very pleased to see that it’s our turn and that the Millenials get a bit of a break. For now, anyways.
