Hey everybody! Reader here, coming at you from the Langenburg Country Inn!
I made the trip out here this afternoon, to get set up for two days on location with the Langenburg Sporting Dreams Lotto.
(By the way – don’t forget to get your tickets – the early bird draw is happening on February 21! Be listening Wednesday and Thursday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., for all the details on how to get your tickets, what you can win, and what the money being raised is going towards!)
Anyhoo, even though it’s a relatively short drive from Yorkton to Langenburg, it’s a reminder of how nice it can be, to just get out on the road and drive.
I love to put on some tunes, scan the scenery around me, and, as Bachman Turner Overdrive famously sang, just “roll on down the highway!”
Of course, I will often have Cruz FM blasting out of the speakers, but sometimes, I like to listen to some of the stuff we don’t typically play, as I like some of everything.
A little Blues, like B.B. King of Stevie Ray Vaughan a little Jazz, such as Louis Armstrong and and Wynton Marsalis, a little Pop like Michael Jackson or Lady Gaga. And of course, a lot of Rock and sometimes a bit of Heavy Metal. That’s where the Stones, Oasis, Queen and Metallica come in!
Whatever it is, I will be singing along, and having a good time.
I must say, though, there are some things that just don’t work for me when I’m on the road.
I’ve tried listening to podcasts and audiobooks. For the most part I can only listen for a little while, even if the guest is interesting or the story is good. I find my mind wandering, and good music helps to keep me focused. Especially when I’m driving late at night, when you have to be extra vigilant and watchful for wildlife and other unwanted surprises on the road.
And I know a lot of people find that as they get a bit older, they don’t particularly like driving at night. I’m sure I’ll hit that point as well, but I still actually find night driving quite relaxing.
How about you guys? When you’re on the road, what do you like to listen to? Do you get to choose, or do you often have a vehicle full of passengers who control the music?
I mentioned BTO earlier, and this is one of those songs that I find to be a great tune to turn up loud when I drive at night. That combination of Randy Bachman’s guitar and Fred Turner’s bass line and vocals… I love it!
