Reader here, and the holidays are officially over at my house.
And yes, I know it’s January 26th, but as is my own tradition, I leave my Christmas tree and decorations up until just about the end of January.
Actually, I usually get them up before the end of November, but this time around, it was a week or two into December before I got around to it, so they were actually on display less than they normally would be.
The reason I usually leave them out so ling, though, is a simple one… it makes me feel good!
The lights and peaceful vibe helps me relax, and frankly, nowadays, who couldn’t use a bit more of that?
Other people have their own way to achieve that, and this is mine.
But, you can’t leave them out, otherwise, how can you look forward to getting them out again when the holiday season revs up again at the end of the year?
One thing that made the pack-up a bit easier this year, is the Christmas tree storage bag I found at a garage sale last summer.
I inherited my tree from my friends and former co-worker that lived in my old apartment before me. How old is this tree? Well, the box still had a Zellers sticker on it!
Anyhoo, the box had been opened and taped up so many times, that it was starting to fall apart. I had been looking for a tree bag, and when I came across one while garage saling, I snapped it up, and it works great!

It fits neatly up on the shelf, and holds all the (fake) pine needles that the tree shed. It’s amazing that even artificial trees shed needles and make a huge mess!
I always seem to have more decorations after Christmas is over, than before. I guess that’s when everything is on sale, and I always seem to find myself picking up a few more items, because if you know me, I’m a Christmas kid. I love my place to look like the holidays exploded!
But now, everything is packed away, and it’s truly time for things to get back to normal.
So, until next Christmas, the festive cheer is packed away!
I guess now I’ll have to find some spring and summer decor to spiff up my place. I guess I could try my hand at keeping some plants alive again. But we all know how that goes!
