Reader here, and y’know, sometimes, it’s all about the little things.
Sometimes, it’s running into a good friend you haven’t seen in a while.
Perhaps, it’s getting to enjoy a favourite snack. Or you’re flicking through the channels, and find one of your favourite movies on, so you kick back and watch until the end.
(That actually happened yesterday, when I stumbled upon “Blazing Saddles.” There was only about half or three-quarters of an hour left, but no matter… I was in until the end!)
Or maybe, just maybe… it’s being able to simply throw a load of laundry in the wash any time you want, and not have to worry about a bunch of other people tying up the machines when you need them.
Living in my old apartment, that happened waaaaay too often.
Before I moved into my basement suite at the end of July, I lived in my apartment downtown for 15 years, where there was one washing machine and one dryer, to serve all residents who lived in the building.
ONE washer. And ONE dryer. For ALL the residents.
Now, it wouldn’t have been so tough, except the other residents really seemed to have no concept of time or consideration for their neighbours.
When I did laundry, I’d set the timer on my phone, and be on the ball, top make sure I wasn’t tying up the machines any longer than I had to.
The neighbours? More often than not, I’d go in to use the machines, and they’d be full of clothes, that people would just leave and come back to when they got around to it.
I’m not “that guy,” that takes other people’s clothes and leaves them out. Because I know I wouldn’t like that if it happened to me.
More often than not, my laundry would accumulate, and when I was heading home to visit my folks, I’d load it into the car, and take it home with me, to make use of Mom and Dad’s laundry equipment. (Not that I needed an excuse to head home, but that was certainly another good reason for a road trip!)
But then, I moved over the summer, and one of the main perks? I have a washer and dryer all to myself!

Mine! All mine!!!
But now, I can do my laundry at my leisure. Whether its a load of jeans at 10 p.m., a load of towels at 6 a.m, or socks and undies at 1 p.m., I have the freedom to do so!
Once again… it’s the little things… those little perks, that just make life a little bit better. Enjoy them when they come!
