Reader here, and with just three more sleeps until Christmas, there’s one big staple of the holiday season that I’ve neglected to talk about… Christmas baking!
For those of us who love all of the treats that seemingly pop up everywhere over the holiday season, it is sheer heaven. (Not to mention that for those of us who have to keep a watchful eye on our blood sugar, it can also be a tough time of year!)
But, much like all good things, everything in moderation.
The reason I mention this, is because when Christmas Time rolls around, we are always blessed to have listeners, clients and family members send in trays of delicious baking, that we at the station get to enjoy, and we are all super-grateful!
Trust me, when the group emails go out to say there’s baking in the boardroom, we can be like a flock of festive vultures, ready to pounce!
Here’s what we received just today…
How do you resist all that? Everything from cookies to rice krispie treats, to cinnamon buns and butter tarts, we get to enjoy a wide range of treats.
I’d make a point of trying them all, but:
a) I wouldn’t want to be a big ol’ treat hog!
b) When dealing with Type 2 Diabetes, crushing a ridiculous amount of treats might not be the healthiest thing!
I will say, though, that there’s no force in Heaven and Earth, that could keep me from enjoying a fresh, homemade butter tart!

Simply sublime!
At Christmas Time, my Mom gets into the act, too, and does a ton of baking. When she asks me what I’d like, my answer is always the same.
As long as she whips up a batch or two of my favourite, melt-in-your-mouth shortbread cookies, I’m a happy camper!
I’m also a sucker for Mom’s butter tarts, chocolate chip cookies, date cookies, cinnamon twists (what those in this neck of the woods refer to as “scuffles,” and so much more.
Again, everything in moderation.
What are your favourite Christmas treats? Let me know in the comment section!
For today’s Christmas song, it’s a little bit more sombre, but very heartfelt.
As joyous as this time of year can be, for many people, it can be tough, for various reasons, so make sure you give a little more grace, understanding and extra smiles, to make the holiday season a bit brighter.
Some folks might be dealing with the loss of someone special, and be facing a first Christmas without them. This song by Tom Walker is for you. Hopefully it brings a bit of comfort.
