Reader’s getting ready for more snow!

By Craig Reader Dec 9, 2025 | 7:16 AM

Reader here, and once again, I’m a little stiff and a little sore after shoveling off my driveway.

We got a pretty good little dump in Yorkton on Sunday and early Monday, and I figured I’d better get out and clear the driveway before we get another dump of snow.

According to the latest Precision Weather forecast, we can expect to see 15 centimetres or more over the next 24-48 hours, which will make a mess of things, and, I’m going to go out on a limb here, will likely necessitate the implementation of parking bans, in order to clear the roads.  IF that happens, of course we’ll spread the word!

However, one new wrinkle with the weather forecasts, is the new colour coded weather alerts from Environment and Climate Change Canada.

I actually forgot these were a thing, and was reminded of them when I saw we’re currently in a Yellow Alert for a snowfall warning.

Handy enough, though to commit these to memory might take a little work!

In fact, when I was skimming over the criteria for these new alerts, I kind of glazed over, much like Homer Simpson, in one of my favourite clips ever from “The Simpsons,” when Ned Flanders is all too happy to explain the difference between apple juice and apple cider to Homer…

The way Homer falls, as if all of his joints immediately failed, makes me laugh so frickin’ hard, every time I see it!

Admittedly, the new colour-coded weather alerts aren’t quite that complicated, but it’s one more thing to keep in mind when it comes to giving you the weather forecast!

Meanwhile, if you’re heading out anywhere, make sure you check the Saskatchewan Highways website:

https://hotline.gov.sk.ca/map

And if you’re in Manitoba, check out the provincial highways website:

https://www.manitoba511.ca/roadconditions?start=0&length=25&order%5Bi%5D=1&order%5Bdir%5D=asc

We want to make sure you get where you’re going safely.

And don’t forget… if it gets really ugly on the roads, don’t take a chance.  If you don’t have to be out on the road, just stay where you are and be safe!

And speaking of big ol’ snow dumps, here’s a fitting Christmas tune for the day!  Enjoy!  (And make sure you stretch out before shoveling!)
