Now, normally, when people nitpick every little detail of a show over “accuracy”, I roll my eyes and scroll past. Like, people will have superpowers, and you draw the line at a song being in a show set slightly before it first released. It’s just a bit silly.
But then again, sometimes it’s for a show that sells itself almost entirely on being in a specific point in time; like Stranger Things. The show is an MA-rated riff on old Amblin style movies and at times it feels like they’re throwing buckets of 80s nostalgia at you nonstop. So when they feature an NES game, they damn well better get the details right!
In the first batch of episodes for the final season, a character is playing Ghosts and Goblins for the NES. Now, the show is set in the fall of 1987, and the game released in the fall of 1986. So what’s the problem? Why, they used the arcade version of the game on the TV!
I love Stranger Things but… NES Ghosts and Goblins this ain’t. Called it out immediately and my 10 year old son replied, “Dad, you only know that because you’re an old retrogaming nerd!”
I feel attacked. 😉 pic.twitter.com/jkkuZ3FjbJ

Seriously though, it’s a total non-issue, just thought it was funny the tiny incongruities people will notice lol
