Reader here, and “to snow or not to snow… that is the question!”
We’re into the back half of November, just over a month away from Christmas, and it’s strange. I’m seeing Christmas lights up across Yorkton. They’re hanging up from the city’s streetlights, and many residents have great holiday light displays up on their homes and yards, and they look fantastic. They’re one of my favourite things about this time of year.
At this point, I should note that I haven’t broken my Christmas lights and decorations out at my new place yet. I’ve been there just about four months now, and I’m still in the process of getting stuff unpacked and put away. As such, I feel like I want to get that done first, before I get the place ready for the holidays. That mean’s I’d better get my butt in gear and finish unpacking!
Between the current lack of festiveness (if that’s even a word), and the lack of snow on the ground, I admit that my Christmas Cheer meter is running a bit low.
There’s just something about having the white stuff on the ground, that just feels right for the holidays. When it’s cold and snowy, you can enjoy all of your favourite outdoor pursuits, and deal with the hustle and bustle of the holidays. Then, you return home, and curl up on the couch with a hot chocolate or a cup of tea, fire up the TV and watch your favourite Christmas specials and movies, while curled up under a warm blanket, or heating up your feet by the fireplace.
And I know… once the snow hits, we’re going to be stuck with it for a while, so many of us don’t mind it staying away. That means winter coats and boots, toque head, and snow shoveling.
That part, I’m not a fan of.
But we need some snow, in order to make things feel more Christmassy. Cold weather, warm hearts, right?
The good news for snow lovers, is that it’s looking like we might start getting some next week, and it wouldn’t shock me if it sticks around. It’s getting to be that time, after all.
That’ll be good news for snowmobilers, skiers and snowboarders, who must be getting a bit antsy – they haven’t been able to get out and enjoy much of winter yet!
So, I think pretty soon, it’ll be time to cue up Bing Crosby, break out my decorations, and get ready for a “White Christmas!”
