CRANE RIVER FIRST NATION – A teenager is facing several firearm-related charges after Ste. Rose du Lac RCMP responded to reports of an armed individual walking through the community with a firearm.

Police say they received a call around midnight about an 18-year-old male who was seen carrying a gun in Ochi Chak Ko Sipi (Crane River First Nation).

Officers later went to the suspect’s home, where they arrested him without incident. A search of the property led to the discovery of a sawed-off shotgun and ammunition inside a bag near the rear of the residence.

Investigators say the teen had also pointed the firearm at several youths in the community before his arrest.

The 18-year-old, from Ochi Chak Ko Sipi, has been charged with possession of a prohibited firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes and pointing a gun.

He has been released and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

Ste. Rose du Lac RCMP continue to investigate.
