Reader here!

As I mentioned yesterday, while back home on my vacation, I made a trip into Saskatoon to catch one of Canada’s most renowned singer-songwriters, Sarah McLachlan, on October 21st, at SaskTel Centre.

This was actually a make-up date.  The Canadian leg of her “Fumbling Towards Ecstasy 30th Anniversary” tour was actually supposed to happen last November.  However, Sarah was stricken with acute laryngitis, and was advised be her doctor to shut ‘er down for a while, and give herself time to recover.

That recovery period is over, and she’s back on the road, celebrating the 30th anniversary of her breakthrough album, as well as the release of her new album, “Better Broken.”

I won’t say I was what you’d call an uberfan going into the show.  I loved the hits, and some of the deep cuts, but when I got the chance to see Sarah live in concert, I didn’t want to miss the opportunity.  And I am SO glad I did!

The show opened with a three-piece combo from Boston, by the name of Tiny Habits.  I wasn’t familiar with the before, but man, were they good!  Such great harmonies, and you could tell they really enjoy making music together.

The trio – Cinya, Maya and Judah – played many originals, as well as two fantastic covers – Stevie Nicks’ “Landslide” and Heart’s “Alone.”  That one, in particular, was a showstopper, and definitely a different spin on that classic gem.

A couple of the originals that I really liked were “Malleable” and “Flicker.”  Check this out:

So good, right?

They’ve definitely been added to my personal playlist!

After they wrapped up their set, Sarah McLachlan took the stage, and my gosh… that voice!  It’s one thing to hear her sing on record or the radio, but when you hear her in person, it’s a whole different level!

If she suffered any ill effects from her vocal issues, you’d never know it.  She sounded completely otherworldly, in the best possible way!

Having lived in B.C. for many years, she did joke that the dry prairie air was something she’s not used to, but she’s a pro, and it didn’t faze her at all.

She kicked off the show with three big hits in a row – “Sweet Surrender,” “Building a Mystery” and “I Will Remember you,” followed by other classics like “Adia” and “World On Fire,” along with tracks from her new album, before playing the entire “Fumbling Towards Ecstasy” album in its entirety.

I was really looking forward to that, as the album features songs like “Possession,” “Hold On,”, “Wait,” “Ice Cream” (which had the crowd singing along), and my personal favourite, “Good Enough.”

Awesome!

Finally, for the encore, Sarah and her fantastic band were joined by Tiny Habits, to close out the evening perfectly, with “Gravity” and “Angel.”

Trust me when I say that no one went home disappointed, as it was a fantastic evening of music.

If you ever get the opportunity to see Sarah McLachlan or Tiny Habits live in concert, do it!  It’s so worth it!
