Hanging out at the Health Foundation office!

What would you do with an extra $1,000 a week for a whole year?

Who couldn’t use an extra thousand bucks in their bank account every single week for an entire year?

Wouldn’t that be amazing?  52 straight weeks with a sweet grand deposited into your bank account!  Wouldn’t that help you out in so many ways?

That could become a reality, if your lucky ticket is drawn on May 23, with your Health Foundation of East Central Saskatchewan’s “$1,000 a Week for a Year” cash lottery!

The Health Foundation works tirelessly to make sure we have the medical equipment, programs and training opportunities for medical professionals, to ensure that everyone in east central Saskatchewan has access to the best possible health care, right in our own backyard, saving the stress of having to travel to larger centres like Regina or Saskatoon.

Over the years, the proceeds from the lottery have gone to purchase a ton of needed equipment for the Yorkton Regional Health Centre, such as digital mammography equipment, an ultrasound machine, CT scanner and an echocardiogram machine, as well as equipment for the Operating Room and ICU.

This year, the Foundation’s main fundraising project is to help make the expansion of the cancer treatment/chemotherapy unit at the Yorkton Regional Hospital a reality.

What does this involve?

Firstly, the chemo unit will be moving from the third floor of the hospital to the first floor, creating far more space to work with, allowing for an enlargement of the infusion therapy area, providing the opportunity for patients with Crohn’s Disease and colitis to also get infusion therapy treatment.

As well the expansion will allow for an additional 60 treatments a month, meaning that the waiting list for patients requiring treatment can be cleared.  Over the past three years, the number of patients receiving cancer treatment at the Yorkton Hospital from across the listening area, has gone up by ten per cent. so to clear the waiting list would be HUGE!

Once the expansion is finished, the Yorkton Regional Health Centre will be handling the most cancer patients for Saskatchewan, outside Saskatoon and Regina.

All these factors make the need for this project more important than ever.

The way to help make this happen, is by purchasing your tickets.  There are three ways to do so.  You can call toll-free, 1-800-636-3243, get them online at www.thehealthfoundation.ca, or stop by the Health Foundation office, at 41 Betts Avenue in Yorkton.

Tickets for the main lotto are 1 for $100 or 4 for $250.  If you get your tickets for the main lotto, you can also buy tickets on the 50-50 (1 for $20, 3 for $50).

Who doesn’t love a good 50-50?  The pot is growing, and if all 4800 tickets sell out, the winner would take home $40,000!

Did I mention there are only a total of 1,600 tickets being sold for the main lotto?  That makes for some great odds to win one of the great cash prizes.  Along with the grand prize, there’s one $5,000 prize up for grabs, along with 5 $1,000 prizes.

Don’t miss out though – the deadline to get your tickets is this Friday, May 16!

Day One was a busy day at the Health Foundation office.  Let’s make the final two days even busier!

Just think… when the draws are made next Friday (May 23), you could be in a win-win situation.  You could win an amazing cash prize, AND support your Health Foubdation and local health care all at the same time.  What could be better?
