Reader here! And, much like Chewbacca, I think with my stomach.
I’m a guy who loves to eat, whether it’s a simple soup and sandwich, a big ol’ pizza, or a delicious steak.
One thing that I’m trying to be better at, though, is cooking more and eating at home.
As much as I love going out to eat, or picking something up at the drive-thru, it’s not cheap. And I’m no different than anyone else these days, as we all try to stretch our bucks a little further. One way I can do that is cooking more at home.
I have a bunch of cookbooks, and I often try recipes that I find interesting. Most of the time, they turn out fairly well, though with more repetition, I’ll get better. It’s like anything – the more you practice, the better you get.
I also scour the internet to find recipes, though the worst part of doing that, is that too often, you have to read the story of the recipe, just to get to what you want. At least more and more sites have the “jump to the recipe” button – what a time-saver!
And I also watch a lot of food and cooking videos on YouTube.
One of my favourite channels is “Smokin’ and Grillin’ with AB,” which features a dude that makes videos to show that anyone can become a great cook at home, or as AB says, he’s “taking the mystery out of cooking.”
I made a banana pudding that I found on his channel, and it turned out awesome, and last night, I tried something new in the slow cooker – a recipe for orange chicken.
I got my ingredients together and gave it a go.
I got the sauce together first and set it aside, then I cut up my chicken breasts, and browned them up a bit before throwing everything in the crockpot for 3 hours on low heat.
It turned out pretty good, overall!
It looked good and tasted good! About the only issue I had, was that the chicken ended up being a bit overdone, so some of the pieces were a bit tough.
But overall, a decent first attempt!
Between my slow cooker, air fryer and indoor grill, I have lots of different ways to make some delicious stuff to fuel me. It’s always fun to try something new!
