Getting back on track with Reader!

By Craig Reader May 7, 2025 | 8:09 PM

What’s up, everybody?  Reader here, and it’s that time…

Time to reach into the back of the closet, dig out the running shoes, and head back out to the track, because the Health Foundation’s Learn to Run Clinics are back for another year!

Admittedly, I’ve been spending too much time on my butt over the winter, and haven’t been up an active nearly as much as I should be.  But, I’ve signed up again, and will do the five-kilometre run.  One of these years, I’ll stay consistently in shape and tackle the 10K, but until then, I’ll stick with what I’m familiar with.

The Learn to Run Clinics run Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout May and June, and the first one hit the track last night!

That’s 5:45 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, so don’t be shy…  Come out and join in the fun!

A new wrinkle they’ve added in this year, is the “Running Buddy” program.  Basically, what it is, is that runners can pair up and help keep each other accountable, when it comes to training.  Because let’s be real… sometimes, it’s hard to get off the couch and get moving, especially on those long, hard days, when you just want to chill out and relax, eat chips and watch Netflix, instead of getting out and hitting the track!

Well, you and your buddy earn points for every Learn to Run clinic you attend, and at the graduation run, the winning team gets a prize!  How fun is that?

Of course, the Learn to Run Clinics are leading up the the Health Foundation Charity Road Race, coming up on Sunday, August 17th.  It’s one of the many fundraising events the Health Foundation holds throughout the year, and it’s all about getting the community up and active, in a fun way, where you can get some exercise, have fun with your friends and family, and make new friends all at the same time!

Whether your a novice runner, or you have a ton of experience, come on out and join in the fun… I’ll see you at the track!
