It’s Day One of the Cruz FM “Airwaves for Health” Radiothon!

By Craig Reader Apr 28, 2025 | 1:11 PM

Hey, everybody!  Reader here, on Day One of what I always refer to as “the two fastest days of the year,” as the 17th annual 94.1 Cruz FM “Airwaves for Health” Radiothon is underway, in support of the Health Foundation of East Central Saskatchewan.

I’ve been here for all of em’, and it never ceases to amaze me how the community comes together to support local health care.

Over the years, the radiothon has raised money for a wide variety of equipment and programs, ranging from digital mammography, to equipment to support newborns, to education programs in conjunction with Suncrest College.

This year, we’re raising money to support he expansion of the cancer treatment/chemotherapy unit at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre.

Now, what will this expansion entail?

Firstly, the chemo unit will be moving from the third floor of the hospital to the first floor, greatly increasing the amount of space they have to work with.

More space, means that the unit will be able to grow the infusion therapy area, providing the opportunity foe patients with Crohn’s Disease and colitis to also receive infusion therapy treatment.

Not only that, but the expansion will allow for an additional 60 treatments a month, meaning that the waiting list for patients requiring treatment can be cleared.  This is important, as over the past three years, the number of patients receiving cancer treatment at the Yorkton Hospital from across the listening area, has grown by ten per cent.

By the time the expansion is complete, the Yorkton Regional Health Centre will be handling the most cancer patients for Saskatchewan, outside Saskatoon and Regina.

All these factors make the need for the expansion of the chemotherapy unit more important than ever.

Grayson and I chatted with Health Foundation executive director Ross Fisher all about it.

The way to help make this happen, is by making our donations.  If you noticed in the Instagram post above, Grayson and I have the phone number to call toll-free…  1-800-636-3243.

Not only can you help ensure top-quality health care right here at home, and keep local patients from having to endure the stress of travel for treatments, but you can also  score a little something for yourself in the process!

For a donation of $100 or more, you can choose from a $25 gift card from one of the following:  Legacy Co-op, Save n Foods, Mr. Mike’s Steakhouse Casual, Manos restaurant and Lounge, Canadian Tire, Melrose Place, or Boston Pizza.

Donate $200 or more, and you’ll have your pick of a five-pack of car washes from Legacy Co-op (who couldn’t use some free car washes with the sloppy weather we’ve been having recently), or a round of 18 holes of golf at Deer Park Golf Course!

It’s win-win!

Ultimately, the important thing to remember is this.  Whether you’ve personally needed to seek local care, or a family member or friend has has a health battle of their own, it’s so very important that we’re able to access top-notch care right here at home, when we need it.

Again… that number?  1-800-636-3243!  Make that call today, in support of the Cruz FM “Airwaves for Health” Radiothon!
