Reader here, and well, Tuesday was quite the day weather-wise.
Stepping outside to go to work just before 4 a.m., in Yorkton, the temperature was nice, the ground was bare, and it didn’t look like a gross day was in store for us, even though I knew the forecast had a bunch of snow headed our way.
Even though areas south of the city were getting hit with the white stuff early in the morning, with the areas around the Number One Highway getting hit really hard, the first few flakes didn’t start falling in Yorkton until about 9 a.m..
By the time I left work around 1:30 p.m., this is what greeted me…
And it was that heavy, wet snow, too, that turned the streets into a slushy, slippery mess.
Travelling around town, I was constantly having to wipe off the windows, because it didn’t take long for the white stuff to build up again and again.
Of course, today, the temperatures were back up above zero, and a bunch of the snow has already melted away.
I know some people say “Why are you so shocked? We always get late snow. No one should be surprised by it.”
Well, I’m not surprised by it. But that doesn’t mean I can’t be cranky about it!
People are trying to work outside in this slop.
Farmers are trying to get ready for seeding, and just when the snow was finally melting and soaking into the ground, we get another blast of winter.
Cattle producers are in the middle of calving season, and have to deal with newborns in more muck that usual.
Those working in construction are having to dress up for the elements.
And, of course, we all have to drive in it.
It’s a pain for everybody, but it’s Springtime on the Prairies. What do ya do?
Out here, we do what we always do… bundle up, and carry on! Time to go for ice cream!
