Reader’s Live Music Bucket List

Reader here!  Today I want to talk about bucket lists.

We’ve all got bucket lists, whether they’re made up of places we’d like to travel, activities we want to try, foods we’d like to experience… you get the idea.

I have a different bucket list in mind, though.

I’m a huge music fan, and during my (almost) 48 years on this planet, I’ve been lucky enough to see just about all of my favourite musical artists perform live.

I’ve seen my two favourite artists on multiple occasions, and I was able to see the Rolling Stones perform four times (Calgary, Regina x 2, Minneapolis) and Oasis (Toronto and Edmonton).

In addition to that, over the years, I’ve had the good fortune to be able to attend concerts ranging from Metallica, the Tragically Hip, Paul McCartney, U2 and B.B. King, to Foo Fighters, Eric Clapton, Korn, Snoop Dogg and Tony Bennett, to Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats, Sam Roberts Band, Elton John, the Roots and Tedeschi Trucks Band, and a bunch more.

However, there’s a bucket list of artists that I’ve never had the chance to see live in concert.  Whether it’s been bad timing, being unable to snag a ticket, or simply the fact that they’ve never really made their way in my direction, there are still a few musicians I’d like to check off my list.

Here are some of them, in no particular order.

First up, the “Boss,” Bruce Springsteen.  After all these years, the guy still puts on marathon shows, and he shows no sign of slowing down!

A Springsteen show seems like a communal experience I want to be a part of.

Next up, the one and only Lady Gaga.

I admit it – I’m a “Little Monster.”  I’ve only seen Gaga perform on TV, but having seen some of her concert videos, she puts on a helluva show, that I’d love to experience in person.

Lenny Kravitz is another artists on my bucket list.  I’ve been a huge fan, since the early 90s, when “Are You Gonna Go My Way” became one of the go-to albums of my teen years (and remains so to this day).  I’d love to see Lenny in concert!

Up next, the incomparable Alicia Keys.  Man… so many great tunes, a fantastic piano player, and a show you know would be filled with great vibes!

I’ve never seen the “Piano Man” play live, but I know that Billy Joel would put on a great show.

And finally, as a horn player, I’m a huge fane of trumpet master Wynton Marsalis.  Years and years ago, he and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra played the Jazz Festival in Saskatoon, and I didn’t go to see them because I didn’t want to go on my own.  I’ve regretted it ever since, because nowadays, I’d never let that stop me!

A few years ago, they teamed up with Eric Clapton for a full concert performance that was fantastic – and captured live!  Here’s one track from that show.

Who’s on YOUR live music bucket list?  Who would YOU love to see?
