The expansion of the Community Cancer Program space in Russell is now complete , and was celebrated with a grand opening held on Wednesday.
Thanks to a $2.5 million investment, the expanded facility, which started serving patients in mid-July, enhances the patient experience and increases access to cancer treatment for Russell and the surrounding areas.
The new addition is approximately four times larger than the previous space within the hospital, offering more patient care areas and better workspaces for staff.
The Expanding Community Cancer Care Committee (ECCC) raised the majority of the funds to build the 3,300 sq. ft Community Cancer Care Centre.
The province also contributed $700,000, helping to relocate the nursing station and medication storage area, create a dedicated patient washroom, nourishment area, and a cozy waiting area plus an expansion of patient care spaces to ensure better privacy.
