On Monday (June 3), CJ announced that his company Margrette Bird Pictures is beginning pre-production on the film about the 26-year-old rapper, who died in September from an accidental drug overdose. “So, over the next year I’m going to start collecting interviews & content to make the definitive @MacMiller documentary for his family, friends & fans,” the filmmaker tweeted. “Please share & tag anyone you think we need to speak with! #birdseyeview #ripmac.”
CJ, who is also the creative director for Jet Life Records, is a “Canadian writer, editor, animator, visual designer and director.” He’s worked with numerous musicians and rappers including Wiz Khalifa, Curren$y, Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz and Ty Dolla $ign, Deadline reports.
The “Self Care” rapper received a posthumous Grammy nomination — his first-ever — for Best Rap Album for his final album, Swimming, at this year’s award show. While the project wasn’t awarded, Mac was honored during the “In Memoriam” segment of the show.
